The Glenmorangie 1981 Sauternes Wood Finish is a legendary piece from the distillery, a true gem for collectors. Distilled in 1981 and aged for 21 years, the last two were spent in first-fill casks that originally held sweet wine from Château d’Yquem (Sauternes). Bottled in a limited edition of just 4,000 numbered units, this bottle being number 2239, with an ABV of 46% vol. and a 70 cl format.
On the nose, it shows enveloping complexity: preserved fruits, custard, and apple strudel, with intense vanilla. On the palate, it reveals notes of caramelized banana, orange marmalade, and melted vanilla ice cream, with accents of brandy, prune, and dates; the finish brings together bright oak spices, banana, and vanilla.
It is an exceptional expression of the wood-finish, with a perfect fusion between the richness of Sauternes and the elegance of Highland Single Malt. Highly sought after, almost impossible to find on today’s market.
