Organic red wine from Montsant. Blend of 4 varieties aged for 14–16 months in cement vats and barrels.
Founded in 1999 and since then established as one of the most prestigious wineries in Montsant, Venus La Universal is the project of Sara Pérez (Mas Martinet) and René Barbier (Clos Mogador).
A blend of 60% Garnacha, 20% Syrah, and 20% Cabernet Sauvignon/Merlot from the Falset plots, a 10-hectare estate of decomposed granite, locally called sauló. The sandy structure of the granite, together with its high quartz content, allows it to change temperature quickly depending on the weather. Warming during the day and cooling at night, thus allowing for good, long ripening and an incredible expression of fruit.
60% of the wine is aged for 16 months in barrels of different sizes from 300L to 4000L, and the remaining 40% in concrete vats to emphasize the fruit.
